Tenuta di Castellaro "Nero Ossidiana"  

90% Corinto Nero 90% and 10% Nero d’Avola. Organic. From the tiny volcanic island of Lipari off the north coast of Sicily. Grapes are hand-harvested. The de-stemmed grapes are fermented using the yeasts naturally present on the grapes, with a long maceration of the wine with the skins. After devatting, the wine is decanted to barrels for the malolactic fermentation. About a year later, it is transferred into a steel tank. No clarification is done, just static decanting before the bottling. Deep red-ruby color. Inky plum, blackcurrant and savory spices are complicated by minerals and fresh flowers on the nose. Medium-bodied. Silky, juicy and deep, conveying a restrained sweetness and outstanding finesse to its apple, plum and mineral flavors. Uvaggio Montagna Nera  

53% Zinfandel, 37% Barbera, and 10% mixed reds. After a few days of cold maceration, the lots were inoculated. Then post fermentation and pressing, filled to barrels so a malo-lactic conversion took place. In late Feb, select French oak barrels (including 36% new, plus 36% once used) were racked and blended, with the aging continuing for another six months. 15% OFF THRU APRIL!

Zorzettig Refosco  

100% Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso. Hand-harvested, totally destemmed, and fermented at 24C. Pomace is pressed and wine is left to settle in steel, then bottled. Peduncolo Rosso translates to "Refosco with the red stems" because the stems or stalks of the clusters turn red when the grapes ripen. This is widely regarded as the top quality sub-variety of this varietal. The wines have impressive dark fruit intensity (plum, blackberry), with notes of violets, pepper, forest floor, almond skin and are laced with minerality and tart acidity.
